MAFA exists to promote unity and cooperation amongst Filipino and Filipino Americans around the Midwest by promoting Filipino culture and Asian American awareness, coordinating meetings and events, and supporting the objectives of the MAFA Member Organizations.

What originated as a conference in 1996 has now evolved into a non-profit student run organization that spans the entire Midwest region.

The MAFA conference came into being as a concept in the Fall of 1995 by the Bayanihan Student Organization (BSO) at Marquette University. The members of BSO attended the Filipino Intercollegiate Networking Dialogue (FIND) Conference at the University of Virginia and the unity demonstrated at FIND inspired them to create a similar kind of gathering for Midwest Filipino Student Organizations. The first MAFA conference was held in March of 1996, which hosted 100 representatives from over nine universities across the Midwest.

Formed in 2008, MAFA as an organization is fairly new and the Midwest is eager to strengthen and expand our involvement in hopes of achieving bigger and better things!
